Gozenbach also points out that since specific correlations can be discovered with machine learning, the importance of the analytics team working closely with the Insights team cannot be overemphasized. In his exact words, “Insight teams cannot work without data.”
“The software front has evolved dramatically in the last couple of years”, one important aspect of this is that many companies have had to handle the fact that “there is no monolithic solution that really covers all of their needs”. Yes, there are some great solutions, but often, great solutions only cover a few use cases. This has resulted in many companies “giving up on trying to find the perfect all in one solution.” What they do now is “try adopting many different solutions” and piecemealing together a solution set that provides needed insights. “Even as a very small company, we have a zoo of different solutions in our software landscape”. Changes like these make integration more important than ever and there’s one place where this will surely lead… more disruption.
Although Gozenbach is a big fan of disruption, with his engineering background, he suggests that “you have to find the right balance between disrupting and just improving what you have been doing and what has been working”. He explains that disrupting all day is not the best way to go, due to the risks involved. “You might spend a lot of time trying to disrupt and nothing comes out of it”. The advice here is that you can “reserve your time for the disruptive projects, but don’t forget the things that have worked in the past. Continue doing them and also continue improving them.” Instead of waiting a very long time to take a giant step, pay more attention to taking small steps, quickly.
Gozenbach’s advice to those who are at the very beginning of their careers: “be eager, be hungry, be eager for change is an absolute requirement. And, sometimes, you have to be naive enough to think you can take on the big problems.”
